Some of yesterday's titles looked promising, but today's canceled them out. Really, a lot of the things they're doing are just bizarrrrroooo. Like this new mandate that all the women have to wear pants, and can't show too much skin. Yes, sometimes titillation can be inappropriate, and some female costumes are just stupid, but a ban on sexiness is just dumb. What's next, burquas for everyone?
You know what everyone should be reading? Avengers Academy. Go buy it now!
I was buying six books. Now I might buy two. Some of the ones I was buying weren't big names. The books that look most interesting now also aren't big names, but since DC used this reboot (that isn't a reboot) to cancel low-selling books, why should I trust them to suddenly start caring about less popular series? JLA Dark and Swamp Thing look interesting. So did T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents and Xombi. In fact the books have very similar appeal. So if Xombi/THUNDER got canceled quickly to make way for Dark/Swampy... I don't think Dark/Swampy will last long either. So I won't be buying them. Maybe the trades, but not the single issues. DC has shown me they lack commitment, so I'm not going to get invested in books likely to get axed.
Catwoman might last though, and maybe Winnick will be having a good day. It's a 50/50 chance.

Ugh.
As for the way they're putting all the Wildstorm characters in the DCU now... it just doesn't work. It's like trying to have the Justice League and Watchmen in the same universe. It sounds fun for the split second before you realize that their stories only work if they're the biggest superheroes in the world. The Authority are... The Authority. They're a darkened and hardened Justice League-like team that finally said "fuck it" and essentially took over the world, who go around killing anyone that they think is hurting the world. They happily killed the President of the United States. You can't have that in the same world as the Justice League. It doesn't work.
It's the same problem they had when they tried to use the Milestone heroes. In the end Static is the only one still around.

I would have bought Sgt.Rock and Blackhawks if they were WW2, but I am MUCH less interested in modern war. Especially if we're talking mercenaries. It's too complicated, and while there are some sides better than others, everyone's in shades of gray, and I don't want to see this stuff dumbed down, and I also don't want to see a depressingly realistic take.
I hope I don't come off as a stereotypical neckbeard when I say I'm worried about this relaunch DC is doing. I know the cliche is a comic fan terrified of change. I'm not. You can't be a Dr. Who fan if you don't embrace change.
It's just that these particular changes sound awful. Superman and Wonder Woman dating, Wonder Woman's whole past thrown away for the umpteenth time in the last few years, Barbara Gordon written as Batgirl while Gail Simone slowly dies inside, and so on. A lot of books that need change probably won't get much in the way of change, and a lot of books that were fine the way they are are being meddled with stupidly. And in some cases the change... is actually just undoing change, posing as change. If Barbara were becoming a grown up Batwoman I'd say "that's change". They're turning her back into a teenage Batgirl. That's undoing change.
This isn't a clean start, which I'd be in favor of. This is "some stories are staying, some we're throwing away. Try to guess which! You'll be surprised!" Additionally, the creative teams don't sound promising. They've got a lot of obscure writers on books writing little-known characters. Some will rock, but it's a sucker's bet that there will be a mass cancellation of books in the next year. Obscure character or obscure writer. One or the other will sell, not both. So unless DC has something up its sleeve, a bunch of good books are going to last for a few issues then be killed in the cradle. It's aggravating and troubling.
And Booster Gold and Secret Six are canceled. DC's two best books. Nuts to that.
But luckily I'm 2000AD and Marvel fan. I've got Judge Dredd and Nicolai Dante, no matter how badly they screw Batman up!

Superboy's new look is designed to attract the attention of only one audience:
Twilight fangirls.

DC is now more 90s-ish than they ever were in the 90s. I haven't seen anything like Midnighter's new "big metal spike on the chin" since the days of Spawn and Stryfe.

What? No. That's stupid. That had better not happen.
The Justice League is getting another origin.
The cover to the first issue of that origin features the usual people you see in "the first meeting of the Justice League" except with Cyborg instead of Martian Manhunter. So Cyborg is apparently a founder of the League, and J'onn isn't.
This is a 10 out of 10 on the "what the fuck?" meter.
I have been very tempted to get the 'ozma of oz' books that have been coming out. Being a big fan of oz based art and stories. Has anyone read one?
